It’s the middle of February! I am not sure how it got here so fast, but here we are, and the theme for this month is love.

Love can create powerful and confusing feelings for many of us. It often accompanies expectations and conditions that are difficult to separate.

Often if we haven’t had good role models in life, we may confuse the feeling of love with other strong feelings and we miss an opportunity to increase the love in our lives.

Love comes in so many forms: love of our family, our partner, animals, and our friends.

In the month of February we celebrate Valentine’s Day, which most people think of as a day to celebrate romance.

Whether you are in a romantic relationship or not, you can use this month as a springboard to create abundant love by making sure your partner, friends and important people in your life know they are loved.

We really can shift the world through love, but we must have love in our own hearts first.

Hypnosis can help you move the blocks that have kept you from opening your heart, fully, to love. Treating yourself with loving kindness is the first step toward more intimacy and love in your life.

About Laney Coulter

In 2013 I retired from Education as a Special Education Administer. I was a teacher, principal and a Director of Behavioral Services in my 30-year educational career. I was also a co-facilitator teaching parents how to parent difficult children and a co-facilitator for Alternatives to Violence groups in the community and in prisons, teaching effective communication skills. I have a background as a neighborhood mediator and now I have turned my sights to working with individuals and small groups as a Hypnotist. I began my hypnosis practice in 2005.

I have always enjoyed, and have had and still do, a passion for working with people, to help move them from where they are to a healthier, happier place. Not only do I feel great compassion and empathy I also believe in teaching from my heart to yours. I have named my practice Loving Kindness Hypnosis because I want all my clients to learn to be gentle and loving and kind toward themselves.

I believe in all my clients. I know they are loveable, forgivable, and good enough, people who just need a little help removing the block that is keeping them from seeing themselves as they truly are. Become a Non-Smoker

Why is it so hard to stop doing something that you no longer want to do? It’s because it is a habit, a deeply ingrained habit that reinforces you in some way.Our brains are really interesting. We tend to smoke as a distraction from something. If we don’t look too closely and all we do is tell ourselves “Don’t Smoke” what our brain hears is “Smoke” Our brain doesn’t hear the “Don’t” We also tell ourselves we are addicted and we use that as an excuse. I challenge you on that one. I call it a HABIT because a habit is much easier to change than an addiction. So calling it an addiction is another way to keep you stuck in this, it’s an excuse rather than a way out.


Ok so let’s say in your teenage years you looked around and saw that all the cool kids were outside smoking and in fact the same was true in your twenties and thirties. The cool place to be was in the area with the smokers. That was the place to go to get to know people and hear the latest gossip. It felt good to be there smoking and it changed your mood to a more positive feel good mood. Trigger behavior, reward. Each time we do this we learn to repeat the process and it becomes a habit. So later, feeling stressed triggers our urge to smoke. Our brain process now is literally killing us with this habit as smoking is among the leading preventable causes of mortality in the world.

Instead of fighting our brains by trying to force ourselves to stop something without putting something positive in its place and without leaning to pay attention to this reward based process, we know from experience, doesn’t work as a way to stop smoking forever. Use a strategy that does work. Hypnosis.
Hypnosis works to retrain your brain to pay attention to this natural reward based process but now you are not fighting it but rather you are getting in touch with what you like and don’t like about smoking you are able to step back and really see that you are using this habit to distract from uncomfortable feelings. Once you get in touch with the feelings and are able to deal effectively with your emotions you no longer have the need to distract and in fact you realize you don’t really like smoking. It stinks and tastes bad and you smell awful. Once you are in touch with your feelings and know how to satisfy them you no longer engage in the old behavior. There is no need to anymore. You have effectively mastered the no-smoking habit, you have become a Non-Smoker and smoking is just something you use to do. Now you have kicked it out forever, easily.

Laney Coulter, the woman behind Loving Kindness Hypnosis, wanted to talk over the phone before our first session, to figure out what I wanted to be hypnotized about. Over the phone, I hedged: “Maybe I need to lose weight?” I said, trying to come up with a lady-related thing I should want to fix deep in my brain. “Sure,” she said. “That’s a tough one.”

I thought about how sick I was about writing about losing weight-type stuff, and how truly little I care about losing weight. I tried to figure out something that really was stressing me out, something that I thought other women might be experiencing. I flipped through my phone and opened Facebook and saw a picture of some acquaintance’s daughters doing a shell-based art project on a beach. Then I called her back. “Maybe we can do anxiety related to other people’s lives seeming so much better than yours on social media?”

“OK,” she said. “You didn’t really seem too into the weight-loss thing.”
